A validator is a network participant responsible for confirming transactions and producing new blocks on a blockchain, earning rewards in exchange for that work. What Validators Actually Do
Validators perform two closely related jobs: they check that incoming transactions follow the network's rules, and they take turns proposing and confirming the blocks that get added to the chain. This work is what gives a blockchain its security guarantees. Without validators actively checking each other's work, a ledger is just a shared file with no enforcement mechanism.
Autheo's Validator Model: Proof of Autheo
Autheo runs on Proof of Autheo, a hybrid consensus model combining licensed validator eligibility with stake-weighted block production. To participate as a validator, operators must hold an Autheo NFT License and meet the required staking or bonding threshold. Once both requirements are met, the active validator set operates using a standard Proof-of-Stake model, where validators earn rewards and produce blocks in proportion to their stake. The underlying framework is built on Cosmos SDK and Tendermint core BFT, providing Byzantine fault-tolerant finality and proven production-grade security.
The Two Gates Validators Must Clear
Becoming an active Autheo validator requires clearing two distinct requirements. Gate one is eligibility: the operator must hold an Autheo NFT License, which identifies who is authorized to run a validator in the first place. Gate two is commitment: the operator must meet the required staking or bonding threshold, aligning their economic incentives with honest network behavior. Only once both gates are satisfied does a validator join the active, stake-weighted rotation and begin earning rewards proportional to its stake.
What Validators Earn and Why It's Structurally Scarce
Autheo validators earn THEO token emissions distributed over an approximately 7-year schedule, weighted by performance and uptime. The validator set is capped at 399 sovereign positions, which can be fractionalized into Core (1%) and Prime (10%) tiers for different levels of participation. That fixed cap, combined with the dual-gate requirement, is what makes an Autheo validator position structurally scarce rather than open to unlimited entry.
